What’s Happening @ PoD in 2013

 

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM PLUSONE DYNAMICS !!

We trust you have survived the festive season with minimal fallout from all that tempting Christmas food, wine and ideally experienced some of that “enforced relaxation”!   Here at PoD we took the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with family, then participate in a little Christmas cheer with friends, colleagues and clients.  A few days getaway to Mount Maunganui was also squeezed in, (see below for our review of accommodation), as was the inclusion of many walks, day tramps and beach visits in 5 of New Zealand’s many beautiful native reserves.

Last year allowed PoD to actively expand our iMA Strategies, Audits and Workshops to a greater audience in New Zealand and Australia which provided enhanced Project Team formation and significantly improved team connectivity for our clients.  In 2013 PoD will continue to focus on building high performing teams; teams that connect and communicate effectively with each other and teams that engage effectively with their clients and stakeholders.

Sleepless Night at Aquarius Motor Inn – Mount Maunganui, New Zealand

Unfortunately a sleepless and disappointing night at this motel. The location is a comfortable 10 minute walk to Main Street in the Mount where there is a plethora of awesome dining and bar experiences.

We rented a studio unit, which was pretty basic but clean and tidy and of large and reasonable size. Unfortunately a large group of rowdy drunk guests returned to the complex at 1am and were noising etc. The Manager was onto it quickly however it wasn’t over until 3.30am, obviously it’s that time of year at the Mount and the Motel Management were apologetic the next morning.

The biggest issue was the total lack of any sound proofing between rooms and even the outside. We could hear all the going on’s outside our unit AND the unit next to ours so when paying a premium price for a studio unit, not having any sound proofing was disappointing.

There was the normal array of kitchen utensils, microwave, Cable TV, a tiny dining table and bathroom amenities such as shampoo, soap etc were supplied, however there was no hair conditioner. Again when paying $150+ for a studio “motel” unit, hair conditioner is expected. There was a King Bed PLUS a single bed in the studio unit … personally I’d rather have a small sofa.

Staff and Service were fine but unfortunately I can’t recommend this motel due to the sound proofing issue, and we wont stay there again for either business or pleasure. Based on TripAdviser, AA and site reviews I was expecting a more based on the premium price.

2-3/5 for value, 1/5 for sleep.

Dec 2012 Update – What’s Happening @ PoD

 

A VERY WARM, HEART FELT CHRISTMAS GREETING AND FESTIVE WISHES FROM PLUSONE DYNAMICS

Yes it’s that time of year again… some love it, some loath it… regardless of your preference many of us eat too much (then moan about it), drink too much (then reminisce that perhaps we also did that last Christmas!) but most of all we gather together around friends, family, colleagues, those that share our lives and celebrate the passing of another year and look forward to new beginnings.

It has been a fantastic year for PlusOne Dynamics, expanding our Service offerings throughout New Zealand and Australia has been beneficial for our clients and allowed us to actively expand our iMA Strategies, Audits and Workshops to a greater Audience.  Some of our clients have used iMA within their Project Teams and reported significant team connectivity as a result.  Another client, a National Franchisor in New Zealand, used the PlusOne Dynamics iMA Human Resource Audit to prepare for and improve the outcomes for participants at their annual national conference.  They reported significant value and insight into effective communication and connectivity with their Franchisees.

Sometimes you just need to get away from the office, work, emails, the internet and the general hum drum of life. What better place to do this than Hanmer Springs – just an 1.5 hour drive from Christchurch and the major attraction (other than clean high country air, a slow pace of life, wine and food) is the famous Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools.

 

Yes the pool facility is a bit touristy, in fact loads of tourists from all over the world come there for a hot dip in the mineral pools, however the surroundings are amazing, it’s super clean and staff are friendly and focused on the customer experience. At $18 for the day, it’s a bargain, best of all you can buy a return day pass and go twice in the day for $5 extra! (Generally 3-4 hours is enough, but being able to leave and come back at night for a 2nd soak… awesome).

Four weeks ago we needed to “head for the hills”, flew down to Christchurch, picked up a Jucy Rental Car (another story about them in a future blog) and we drove to Hanmer Springs.  Our destination was the Aspen Lodge Motel, quiet Hanmer accommodation that is a short 4 minute walk from  the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and super close to the Hanmer town centre, the shops, the pub and Cafes.

 

In this day and age what I desire most when staying somewhere is Service!  Exceptional Service is what I’m really after, regardless of whether it is a Café, a Hotel, Motel or a Restaurant.  Sadly I think the focus on Customer Service in New Zealand has been lost over the last 15 years.  Having stayed at the Aspen Lodge Motel a number of times over the years, it is truly refreshing to stay somewhere that continues to focus on The Customer (aka Us!).  The owners and awesome Hosts of the Aspen Lodge Motel are Merv and Anne Sutherland (plus their cat Tana), they are down to earth true Kiwis that attend to their guests needs and are focused on the Customer Experience.

The accommodation options at the Aspen Lodge Motel are super comfortable. Great Super King size beds, warm and spacious, super clean and tidy units with fully equipped kitchens and at the top of the list as far as motels go.  Anne also bakes fresh muffins every morning for guests that stay multiple nights and delivers these to your room! (I kid you not!) . There are 100’s of DVD’s to borrow, 50 TV channels, each room has a small balcony and nothing seems to be a problem for these customer orientated Moteliers!!  A complimentary BBQ can be arranged should you wish to have a cook up and there is even complimentary WiFi should you absolutely need to check emails, Facebook etc.

 

With prices ranging from $115 to $160 NZD, the location of the Aspen Lodge Motel and the incredible down to earth Kiwi Hosting from Merv & Anne, we wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else when heading to Hanmer Springs. Check them out Here and if you are considering heading to Hanmer for a few days of R&R, just do it, book it in, we highly recommend a stay at the Aspen Lodge Motel!
